: Havn't seen this steering problem yet.
Skil1ed 03-23-2011, 01:43 PM So last night on my way home from the recording studio, I stopped behind the airport for a minute and shut off the car. I took my foot off the clutch to find out the car is still idling with no electornics. So I tried starting it again and turned it off. The car still idles with no electronics. After turning it over the third time, I noticed the digital odometer read "POWER STEERING". I believe it also said "SERVICE AIRBAG" briefly before.
On the drive home, the warning stayed. The steering was fine, but when I got home, I still could not shut the car off, stalling it was my only option
I am taking the car over to my neighbors garage to get it on the computer in a few minutes. I will update my result.
bann1315 03-23-2011, 01:59 PM ive heard of this...
utsadude 03-23-2011, 02:10 PM Why does everyone say stalling is the only option? Pull the fuel pump relay next time.
Skil1ed 03-23-2011, 02:21 PM fuel pump relay, from the driver seat? My e-brake 'clicker' is currently out of place.
utsadude 03-23-2011, 02:33 PM So... You can't leave it in neutral while you go pull the relay?
Skil1ed 03-23-2011, 03:43 PM not in my driveway, lol. you guys know what it could be?
My neighbor wasn't home =[
kingG5 03-23-2011, 08:11 PM Why wouldn't u take it to a dealership?
The GRAFX Shop 03-23-2011, 08:18 PM i had something like this happening .... youtube search g5 power steering failure .. there is a video i made
bann1315 03-23-2011, 09:35 PM YES! thats where i've seen it before. Lol
Skil1ed 03-24-2011, 02:44 AM The power steering works fine though, just the error I am getting, plus the car doesn't want to turn off. I won't go to the stealership until I know the problem and if warranty will cover it. They want $50 just to tell me if its under warranty. I would rather identify the problem myself before deciding if I want to pay that $50 deductible
bann1315 03-24-2011, 04:42 AM go to a different dealer! That one is trying to rip you off. You should just be able to call and ask about your warranty, and they'll tell you!
Skil1ed 03-24-2011, 01:46 PM The Dealership I bought the car from only has one garage they do work on cars purchased from that location. I called them today, I told them about the problem I was having. They told me they can't tell me whyat it could be until I pay a $50 deductible to have them look at it under warranty. Without the warranty, they charge $94.50 an hour to look at it (WHAT A RIPOFF).
So after getting nowhere on the phone, I asked them about the recall I heard about. She researched my car and found out that the recalled part (they tell me power steering motor) was replaced October of 2010 which was about a month before I purchased it.
I am going to try to get my car on the computer again tonight. Will post results.
bann1315 03-24-2011, 02:26 PM Go to a different dealer! Any GM dealer can service your car! Where are you from!? That they charge you to just bring it in?
Skil1ed 03-24-2011, 03:57 PM nova scotia. They charge me either an hourly rate to look at it and tell me what's wrong, or they would charge me the $50 deductible to look it over based on my warranty. Other dealerships won't take you unless you bought the car from them.
gamer58 03-24-2011, 05:16 PM Just asking, but did you get the power steering recall done =p
Skil1ed 03-25-2011, 03:00 AM So after getting nowhere on the phone, I asked them about the recall I heard about. She researched my car and found out that the recalled part (they tell me power steering motor) was replaced October of 2010 which was about a month before I purchased it.
I did.
Mike Z 03-25-2011, 06:07 AM Where in Nova Scotia are you? I know that I have taken my car into a different GM dealer multiple times.
Skil1ed 03-25-2011, 01:23 PM I bought my car at oregans green light in Dartmouth, they want me to take it to the Chevrolet dealer on robie street in halifax. My guess is that any gm dealer will charge me to have my car put on a computer.
saskg5 03-25-2011, 01:26 PM 50$ deductible hey sounds like a scam i took my car in plenty of times under warranty never paid a cent, depends if it is dealer warranty or GM i guess, do you still have the GM warranty 160xxx power train and 60xxx everything else
Skil1ed 03-25-2011, 02:00 PM got 98 thousand on it. Under dealer warranty for another 40 thousand.
ADAM_WE13 03-25-2011, 02:25 PM The Gm dealer doesn't charge you to read the codes but they charge you to go more in depth to find the specific problem
saskg5 03-26-2011, 01:39 PM got 98 thousand on it. Under dealer warranty for another 40 thousand.
you only have powertrian warranty left then, still a deductible sounds kinda weird to have to pay
Skil1ed 03-26-2011, 04:29 PM So yesterday morning I went to try the car to see if there was any new problems. I found out the battery was dead. I found in the trunk that the power cable connecting my amp and battery was making a connection with the ground for the amp. I pulled them apart and taped up the power cable to prevent further problems. After pulling the wires apart, and boosting the car, I still had the same errors. I left the car for another 24 hours or so and the error messages subsided. I drove it all day today with no problems, except I did notice a slight creak in the steering wheel. But I think there might be a bad bushing or strut in my right front side.
So I learned from this that a bad connection to the battery can mess with your computers.
