: A Challenge? I think?

This is most likely my co-workers just talking smack, cause they like to do that with me, but two of them claim they want to race me.

One of them is an older guy, and he thinks he could kill me with his Ford truck.

F150, I think it's an '05.

The other is a guy who claims he's been in races before. He knows 5's would kill him from the line, but more claims he'd take me in the end cause he'd be willing to go faster than me.

City Jetta, I think '07.

Now, I will admit, I'm not much of a racer. I would probably never race these two, mostly cause I wouldn't want to risk the local race laws on the likes of them. ;)

Just thought it was funny, so I felt like sharing. :)

I think it's funny, but not any funnier than a guy I work with that want's to race me with his stock 96' Nissan truck, yeah right. lol

I don't race much at all myself either, so I told him not interested.

Yeah... that's pretty much what I did too. I did the "whatever" approach.

if you could find an open, cop free area - it might be kind of interesting to see how they all match up - especially if it's just for shits and giggles :-)

Oh I know neither are built for speed. That's what makes it so funny.

To the OP: If you are stock, the truck would likely beat you. You'de have a slim chance if it has the bottom tier 4.2L V6. If its a 4.6L or 5.4L, it would beat you hands down.

You would beat the jetta. Being willing to go faster means nothing...after 1/4 mile, its just a fly by :\

F-150 with the "weakest" engine they offer can do mid 15's.

I'm not sure exactly what size the truck engine is, though I'm surprised it would have that much pick-up!

Not surprised on the jetta, though. ;)

Well if it is a Citi Jetta that means its the 2.0 (aka 2.slow) easy kill really.

Just watch out for those 1.8T and VR6 Jetta's :(

Truck engines are meant for hauling, not acceleration. Although their engines have twice the power, the trucks themselves are a weight and aerodynamic nightmare, and as such are slower than our puny 4 cyl engines. I've floored a 5.3L Chevy engine before in a 1500 Silverado, and felt like I was driving a Prius as far as acceleration goes. Even the lowest trim 95 Civic could hand most trucks their ass.

That's exactly what I was thinking as as well! It made no sense!
