Hi All,
New to the group, building a 2006 G5 GT 2.4 Ecotec oval track asphalt car. Track rules limit me to using factory exhaust, intake, aluminum rims and tires so most of my performance work will be engine related. Pulling engine and planning on:
-counter balance delete
-deck the head 0.020"
-swapping intake of 2009 2.2 ecotec for better flow
-upgrading the valve springs ( seeing #82 alot on site)
So far I have flashed the CPU to achieve 8,000 RPM eliminated fuel cut, going to mod shift pattern to hold in 2nd gear (1/4 mile track)
Please share your do's and don'ts new to these cars, last one was an 07 Neon.
Thanks

I have heard anything before 2007 isn’t much good to mod I can’t remember why tho good luck
It's the other way around actually, early 2007s and before are supposed to have better internals

Iirc, the 2.4s Intake is the better one for flow, just do some port work to really help the engine breathe. While you have everything out, Id do the timing chain, make sure you use Grade 10 bolts as some kits come with Grade 8s and those can shear the head off the bolt at sustained high RPM. There's some other stuff that goes into sustained 8k as well, though I believe the 2.4 can get to 10k

Thanks guys, so far we shaved .020 off the head, did a wack of porting, cut the vavles 3 angled, hogged out exhaust manifold, ordered counterbalance shaft delete from ZZ Performance (Super fast delivery-great job on that ZZ). Starting to assemble tnt. Gotta take more pics...
