So the car has been making that metal on metal vibration noise for some time now, and in some of my previous posts here I was mentioning them. Last week at idle the rattle upgraded to a more serious rattle. Today I went under the car and found out what I believe is a heat shield that goes between the car and the exhaust pipe (very middle of the car, around 4ft long) and saw all 4 contact points that hold it in place have sheered off. The metal rivets or bushings or whatever are still attached to the frame however nothing to the aluminum. So the rattle is simply the heat shield resting on top of the pipe.
Is this shield even needed? can I take it out with no ill effects or should I go to the stealership and get them to charge me 500 dollars (which im sure they would) for a new piece of aluminum?
Thanks.
