Hey everyone, another recall for the G5s/Cobalts.
"In addition to 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada only, GM is separately recalling 2003-2007 Saturn Ions, 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHRs, and 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and 2007 Saturn Sky models. The affected U.S. vehicle population, including those vehicles recalled Feb. 13, totals 1,367,146."
GM ignition switches are garbage. Ive been having mad problems with my Yukon, ignition switch dies and the trans no longer shifts and the converter no longer locks up
300k km on it and it still runs strong, perfect compression on all 8 cylinders . More than I can say about my family friends 05 Expedition that went to scrap for frame rot at 200k.
My 92 f150's frame is perfect. Body is rotten. My G5 started to rust year one. All vehicles rust, especially in a salt environment. I am disappointed in my gm, impressed with my ford.
Its getting alot of media attention because it was shoved under the rug instead of being recalled, much like Ford has been well known to do, mind you not as big of a deal as say the Pinto or the Explorer with only 13 deaths, but definitely should have been fixed as opposed to telling customers to remove everything off their keychain, including the dealer supplied keyfob. If a dealer told me that I'd have been furious.
Problem with charges or suits is this; the criminal investigation and any liability suits are dealt to "Old GM" or the General Motors Liquidation Company, which has no money or care in the world to do anything about it, they cant technically go after the new GM because they technically are not responsible for cars built under management of the "Old GM". Its a sticky situation and Im really interested to see how it plays out, but this definitely has early to mid 2000s GM written all over it. Poor quality materials, poor build, poor customer satisfaction and apparently little care for their customers. I'm glad to see most of this is not the case anymore, but old habits die hard.
Checked mine forty functionality after I got the letter. Everything seems rock solid good as new. As long as the steering wheel doesn't lock up, I'll be just fine. There's a short reserve of power brakes and steering I can handle easily.
I got a second recall letter today. I thought it might be to notify me that parts are available, but instead it was to notify me that the recall has been expanded to include a problem where the key can be removed from the ignition with the engine still running.
First the recall is because your car can shut off unexpectedly. Now the recall is because your car might not shut off when expected???
hmmmmm.....
I got my second notice for the recall today..........
but mine clearly reads Please contact your GM dealer to schedule an appointment to have the recall repairs performed on your vehicle.
I'm auto
Mine is fine, you can wiggle, jerk or pull and it is fine.
